DISAPPOINTMENT - No TALIB KWELI For Ghana's Independence Day

Asabaako Announcement
The organisers of the Asabaako Music Festival regret to inform that Talib Kweli will no longer be performing at this year’s event, scheduled for March 5, 6, 7 on Busua Beach, Ghana.

Talib’s performance was a last minute addition to the festival line up, after news of his desire to play in Ghana spread around Twitter only a few weeks before the event. Although additional funding had been sourced to bring the artist, who had lowered his fee to show how much he wanted to play in Ghana, the time constraints have meant that we have not been able to access these funds in time to make his visit logistically feasible.

We are deeply upset by this, as Talib is one of our favourite artists of all time and he had always been at the top of our list to perform one day at Asabaako. On announcement of his desire to play, we have worked day and night and done everything we can to try and make it happen, but unfortunately there has been too much standing in our way on this occasion.

The Asabaako Music Festival is a concept that we aim to become one of the world’s great music festivals, and Talib’s interest in the event shows how big this can be. It is something we, Beating Tracks, have been researching and developing for almost two years and are dedicated to making a success and putting Ghana on the international festival map. Asabaako 2011 is still planned to go ahead on the spectacular Busua Beach, with the cream of Ghanaian artists, DJs, musicians, beach parties, street parties, beach soccer, volleyball, surfing, BBQs and so much more, coming together for the festival’s main event on March 6th, Independence Day.

In the meantime, Talib is deeply disappointed that his dream of playing in Ghana has not materialized this time around, and we are hoping to rearrange a performance in Ghana at a later date - possibly for Asabaako 2012. We will be sure to update on this as and when news comes in.

Our sincere apologies once again for how this has come about, and we look forward to what we believe will still be a fantastic Independence Weekend on Busua Beach.
